Have you ever wondered what the difference between a professional racer’s vehicle and a production car is? Further, what technology goes in the development of a champion racer’s vehicle? Well, you can find all of it and also own champion Formula Drift driver Vaughn Gittin Jr’s custom-made 2010 Ford Mustang RTR-C! Yes, the Mustang RTR-C, built as the halo vehicle when the RTR brand was launched back in 2010, is up for auction at the Berrett-Jackson’s Collector Car Auctions.

For those who aren’t familiar with Vaughn Gittin Jr, it is fair to say that he is the one who made the S197 a well-known name in the circuit. Prior to Vaughn making a name for himself with the 2005 Mustang GT, the drifting sport was a domain of Japanese cars. The relationship between Vaughn and Mustang boosted the American carmaker’s status and introduced a whole new phenomenon. Similar to other racers, Vaughn also launched his one-off Mustang RTR-C.

The specially designed car debuted at the 2009 SEMA show  and featured all manner of upgrades that your dealer could install for you to make your vehicle more of drift machine for the Formula D.

The 2010 model is made entirely of carbon fibre, which is laid intricately and matched meticulously in a Pagani Zonda fashion. What’s more, even the 20-inch HRE wheels are made of carbon, helping the car shed a massive 500 pounds off the curb weight! Just to give you an idea of this whole lightweighting expenses, the carbon wheels itself cost $25,000. This was pretty obvious as the ‘C’ in the name of the car stands for carbon!

The mean machine runs on a 4.6L 3-valve overhead-cam V8 engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission, generating 550 hp. Also available is the Ford Racing 3.73 axle package and differential cover and Ford Racing Torsen limited-slip differential, K&N air filter and oil filter, 1-3/4″ American Racing headers with 3″ X-pipe, Bosch Platinum Plus spark plugs, Ford Racing FR500s mufflers and six-piston front/four-piston rear brakes. You can fully adjust the suspension thanks to Ford Racing anti-roll bars, TEIN damping adjustable coil-overs, and a pan-hard link and rear control arms from Autosport Dynamics.

RTR carbon-fiber exterior elements include roof and body panels, rear splitter, rear spoiler, and grille and rocker splitters. The custom interior includes Sparco RTR-C-edition seats, harness and harness bar, leather upholstered rear seat delete and RTR-C backlit door sill plates.

As for the interiors, the car features Sparco RTR-C-edition seats, a harness bar, a custom leather upholstered rear seat delete, and RTR-C logo illuminated door sill plates.

There is still no clarity on the bidder and the exact price of the auctioned car. However, the Banett Jackson website shows the car’s status as sold with a price tag of $75,900.
